Aelred Meadeaux
Admiral of Limsa Lominsa
Lominsan, warrior of light, pirate. In that order. While Aelred may be a warrior of light, to him it is little more than a title he rarely answers to, instead clinging to an identity, that really isn't his own. In order to meet his calling, he must forgo this false identity and embrace who he truly is

Background
Aelred, by all means, should have never come to exist. He was the son of a whore, a Lominsan prostitute, and an unknown father of Elezen origin. Thus, his upbringing was far from glamorous, as his mother continued to work even with a child to care for, though, it was a stretch to call it caring for, as more often than not the boy would starve so she may feed herself. By the time he'd reached no more than 15 years of age, her work had finally caught up with her. His mother had contracted a disease from her work, one that left untreated, would be fatal. Of course the pair could not afford such a thing, but even though his mother had mistreated him, he found a possible solution. He would go to sea, as a pirate and return with the funds they needed to obtain the medicine she required, and so the young man left his mother in Aleport aboard one of the many Pirate vessels that would weigh anchor there, and set to work, proving himself to be a formidable fighter both on land, and at sea, as well as a skilled sailor arguably capable of sailing an entire ship alone.Alas, while his time at sea was certainly a good one, the time came to return to see to his mother. Only, he would not be needing to see to his mother any time soon, as she'd died of her affliction not even a week before he had returned. The boy, now a man of 19 years, was not saddened by this news… rather angered. Angered by the audacity of fate to try and stand in his way. Angered by the loss of his mother, Aelred found a new purpose for his newfound employment. Personal gain. And personal gain was certainly a very good excuse to sail and rob all who he happened to come across at sea..Except he should never have picked a fight with Garlemald. What was meant to be a routine raid on a Garlean port left his ship sunk and most of his crew dead, though he certainly returned the favour. The village that the port was built next to was put to the axe, any Garlean that didn't flee was killed, woman, child, it didn't matter. It was bloody retribution and once the act was done, one of the Garlean ships was stolen and sailed back to Limsa Lominsa carrying the spoils that were taken from the husk of the village.Following these events, Aelred once again needed a new reason to sail, as personal gain had just cost him a lot of Gil. And so, he chose nationalistic pride. Which of course, lead him to the Maelstrom, where he quickly rose through the ranks becoming a Captain and in fact, became the youngest captain in service at the time. Many of Aelred's military actions served both to keep the Garlean navy at bay, but also fill the Lominsan treasury. After all, what benefited Limsa, had a rather nice habit of benefiting his pockets.Though at some point in all this… he found himself having visions, twisted sights of the past, but not his past, the events that occurred in the past of those he met, which lead him to seek out aid for such a thing, believing it to be nothing more than stress related, alas, this lead him into the grasp of the Scions of the seventh dawn, who came to see he may very well be a bearer of the echo, the warrior of light.Aelred would work with the scions to quell the primal threat, and then again to defeat Gaius Van Baelsar and destroy the Ultima weapon, which he did on the grounds of defending his homeland, and also his own business interests. And both were defended very well until that terrible banquet.Following the perceived murder of the sultana and subsequent framing of the scions of the seventh dawn Aelred would go into exile as a ward of house Fortemps of Ishgard. It was during this time that Aelred would receive news. News that he had been stripped of his rank within the maelstrom and his assets in Limsa Lominsa had been seized. Essentially, he'd just been stripped of his citizenship. However he would focus his efforts upon working for house fortemps and subsequently, the holy see itself. The events of Heavensward are largely unchanged, other than minor conversation points (Mostly Aelred just being rude to Aymeric, Estinien etc)Following the induction of Ishgard into the Eorzean alliance Aelred would dismiss himself from his position as envoy of Limsa lominsa, a position that had only recently been returned to him. After all, why should he serve a city state that was so willing to cast him away so quickly. Even if it was his home for so many years, his entire life in fact, he would not remain.Instead he found a new home within the holy see of Ishgard, partly thanks to his title of knight of house fortemps, but also due to relationships he'd formed while there as a ward of said house.Though, most curiously, There was also support coming from house Durendaire. Which at the time, was considered very odd. Though even without their support Aelred would have made the move with ease.Following the move, Aelred would commit himself to aiding Ser Aymeric in bringing the dragonsong war to a close. Which would prove to be a resounding success after Aelred would slay the great wyrm Nidhogg during the dravanian horde's final attack upon the city. However, with the dragonsong war at a close, Aelred would receive multiple invitations to Durendaire Manor from an unnamed knight of the house. This knight would later be revealed to be Aelred's father. Erraut Meadeaux. The discovery of his father only served to strain Aelred's relationship with house durendaire, a strain which only worsened once he discovered that the sole reason that he was sought out in the first place, was so that Erraut may have a replacement for his older, legitimate daughter, who had been killed in the very last days of the dragonsong war.Needless to say. Aelred refused this, declared himself unaffiliated with his father, and then went on with his usual life, but as a citizen of Ishgard, where he would remain for the foreseeable future. While the events of the first act of stormblood play out the same, as well as most of the other events, there are a few key changes. The trip to Hingashi is much smoother, given the scions would have no need to hire a ship since Aelred Literally owns one, this also means the events in the Sirensong Sea do not occur. This however does mean that when the Garleans are actively searching for the scions in Hingashi, Aelred's ship is raided and in return, he raids the Garlean consulate to return what was taken, and as an act of revenge.More important is what changes at the end of stormblood, mostly involving Yotsuyu/Tsukuyomi.The fight with Tsukuyomi had many lasting effects on Aelred. His physical strength was no longer enough to face Tsukuyomi unassisted, thanks to his shortened lifespan that came from his mixed racial heritage, which lead him to quite literally absorb some of Tsukuyomi's power, partially binding him to the being, in order to match its strength and achieve victory. Aelred also Unknowingly denies Yotsuyu her final act of revenge as he quite literally breaks Ashai in two for approaching Yotsuyu after he'd already shot her, replacing that scene with a final exchange of words between Aelred and Yotsuyu, an exchange that was rather unfortunate, as by this point Aelred's delusion of Yotsuyu bearing less than hateful feelings towards him had already begun to take hold.Following the liberation of both Ala Migo and Doma Aelred would find himself in the far east more often than not. The fate of Yotsuyu would end up weighing upon him far more than it likely should have. But that was his own fault, after all, why should he even care since she was by all means his enemy. However, in a way, her life had some resemblance to his own, at least his youth did.He would eventually return to Eorzea, and of course Limsa Lominsa, mostly as a result of the upcoming trident, the challenge which would decide who would be the admiral of Limsa Lominsa. Of course most would expect the current one, Merlwyb, to take victory in it as she had done before, alas she would be challenged, and bested, by Aelred, making him the new admiral of Limsa Lominsa and commander of the Maelstrom. This was not a smooth and easy victory however, many of the older members of the Maelstrom actively refused to accept the results of the trident and in turn, forced Aelred to gather his support base and march from Aleport on to Limsa Lominsa itself, though peaceful it did lead to the demise of both Reyner and Storm marshal Eynzahr Slafyrsyn, aka Mistbeard at the hands of the new Admiral as punishment for "treason".With Aelred now having other obligations, he takes after Lyse Hext, and takes permanent leave from working with the Scions of the seventh dawn, citing that he too was no longer able to be neutral on affairs, given he was a head of state. This was something he'd desired to do for quite some time. This break was short-lived, however, thanks to the Crystal Exarch summoning him to the first.[EVENTS OF SHADOWBRINGERS TO BE ADDED ONCE HE FINISHES THE DLC]

Aelred's Aspirations and Ideals
Aelred dreams of one thing and one thing alone.A Unified Eorzea. Not one separated by separate city-states. An Eorzea under a single banner, unified not only as allies, but as a single people. He wants to do away with being 'Gridanian' or 'Lominsan'. He wants the only term to be 'Eorzean' akin to how all those from the lands of Garlemald are called 'Garlean'Alongside this, Aelred wishes for the differences between the non beast races of Eorzea to end, no more division between the Elezen and the Miqo'te for example. This does not extend to the likes of the Ixali or the Kobolds however, the beast tribes are little more than animals in his eyes, and he doesn't hide that fact one bit.Of course, his means of achieving these things are far from noble, if the other city-states were to refuse his ultimatum (Which, most would, maybe not Gridania.) he'd resort to military means almost immediately, and at that point, he isn't shy of violating treaties, agreements etc. He'll see the cities reduced to ash if that's what it takes to achieve his ambitions. He'll see the twelveswood burnt to the ground, Ul'dah reduced to rubble, hell he'll outright have the supports that keep Ishgard up destroyed if it comes to that. He doesn't care. But even with this general disregard for the well being of the people of the other city-states during conquest, the moment the cities themselves fall it may as well be business as usual, he doesn't subjugate anyone, no one is suddenly a second class citizen, they're just an Eorzean now instead of a Gridanian or Ul'dahn, otherwise they are treated as any Lominsan would be under Aelred's ruleWhile a firm believer in the need for a strong ruler, he is also aware of his mortality, especially in his case since he is aware he has a reduced lifespan thanks to his hybrid racial heritage. As such, once he begins to reach the age where death is coming soon (Early to late 50s in his case) He makes steps to turn the state into a democratic one, be it just Limsa Lominsa or Eorzea as a whole. By this point he likely belives his work is done anyway, so there is no need for a strong dictator any more.So while Aelred commits a huge list of atrocities (Which no, the writer does NOT Condone.) He has ideals that could be regarded as good, of course, which means these good ideals come at the cost of much suffering and loss of life, but his intentions have always been good.
Post-Aelred Eorzea
After many years of merely ruling Limsa Lominsa, Aelred would finally launch his plan into action, a full scale takeover of mainland Eorzea.Whilst the success of this plan is unlikely, let's ponder the ramifications and results of it succeeding.Gridania would be the first of the city-states to fall into line, after the twelveswood is almost burnt down as a result of Aelred's forces starting many fires across the landscape, towns like bentbranch likely no longer exist and Gridanians are confined to Gridania itself.Ul'dah is completely destroyed, Aelred opting to have canons absolutely hammer the place when it proves to be impossible to capture using regular military means, thus, the population of the area moves into the surrounding settlements, though a new city, aptly named "New ul'dah" would begin construction not long after the city fell. Resistance to Aelredian rule would be massive thanks to Aelred's destruction of the city and the deaths resulting from said destruction.Following the other two states, Aelred would move on to Ishgard. Which would prove to be a much less easy target, a VERY well trained army, as well as the dragons that have aligned with them since the end of the dragonsong war. Half of the city would end up collapsing as Aelred orders his "Grand army of Eorzea" to begin destroying the very support pillars that keep the city up. Dooming many residents of the Brume as well as some in the upper levels. The manors of both house Fortemps and Haillenarte would go down with this collapse. Leaving a rather pathetic remains of a city for Aelred's men to occupy, with immense difficulty as much like the Uldahns, the Ishgardian people very openly resist the new ruling party.Initially, Aelred considers an immediate invasion of Ala Mhigo, alas he opts to avoid it, as doing so would turn the land into a meat grinder once again, something that Aelred's new army couldn't afford to do.Following these events, Aelred sets to work securing his power base, having those he suspects of being traitors killed, ensuring that rebellions are brought to heel. Things he achieved easily thanks in part to the large number of former Garleans which he'd recruited following the fall of the empire.
